ADD YOUR NAME: Tell Congress to make Washington, D.C. a state!
A core tenet of our founding principles – that citizens should have a say in who governs them – is being denied from the people of Washington, D.C.
Despite having a population (more than 700,000) comparable to several states (Alaska, Wyoming, Delaware), despite residents paying federal taxes, despite the vast majority of residents wanting to become a state – Washington, D.C. has, time and again, been denied statehood.
The simple truth is this: The more people who fully participate in our nation’s democracy, the stronger that democracy becomes. It’s unconscionable that nearly 1 million residents are denied full representation in Congress – and today, we’re asking you to join us in speaking out.
We’ve got to stand with the residents of Washington, D.C. and make our voices heard alongside them. Sign the petition now to call on Congress to make Washington, D.C. a state!
