Since 1977, every president but Donald Trump has released his tax returns. This transparency strengthens our democracy, because it lets the American people decide whether a president’s financial situation compromises his or her ability to lead the country.

Up until now, Trump has hidden his tax returns. With concern mounting about his ties to Vladimir Putin’s circle, it’s time for him to come clean with the American people. Until Trump releases the returns, pressing questions about other nations’ potential leverage over our president will go unanswered.
