There are just 75 orca left in the Puget Sound. Habitat destruction, pollution and dam infrastructure along the Snake River have decimated the Southern Resident orca population, and we need to act now before it’s too late.

This iconic Northwest species is a critical part of the Puget Sound ecosystem, but they’re facing extinction. Every calf born over the past three years has died, except for one.

Southern Resident orca have protections as an endangered species, but they simply lack the food they need to survive. Scientists agree that to save our starving orca we must remove the four lower Snake River dams and increase “spill” to allow more young salmon to successfully migrate to the ocean and survive. If we don’t act now and rebuild the Chinook salmon populations these orca need to live, we will lose these whales forever.

Gov. Jay Inslee has created an emergency task force, and the state legislature has funded research – but more immediate action is essential to rebuild the Chinook salmon populations these starving orca depend on. We need 50,000 grassroots advocates like you to raise their voices and demand Washington state save these iconic whales from extinction right now. Can we count on you to add your name?
