Under the Trump Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is trying to roll back rules that would make organic even stronger. The Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices Rule builds upon existing animal welfare standards, ensuring organic is synonymous with humane practices. This rule is slated to go into effect Nov. 14, but now the USDA is calling for comments to delay or indefinitely suspend it!

I want to see organic standards strengthened! The Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices Rule would strengthen existing animal welfare standards in the organic industry and ensure that organic meat and egg producers meet consumer expectations of certain higher animal welfare standards.

Consumers, like me, trust that the USDA organic seal stands for healthy food, grown using sustainable and humane practices. Please don’t cave to Big Ag’s attempts to weaken organic. Consumer trust is the bedrock of the organic industry, and delaying or suspending this rule would erode that trust.

I urge you not to delay the Organic Livestock and Poultry Practices Rule.
