Tell Congress: Save the Voting Rights Act!
The Supreme Court just struck yet another blow to the landmark Voting Rights Act of 1965. In two new decisions, the court’s right-wing justices UPHELD racially gerrymandered maps, which many argue had been drawn specifically to silence African American voters’ voices at the ballot box.
As Justice Sotomayor wrote in her dissent, “The Court today does great damage to that right of equal opportunity [to vote].” Members of Congress could restore voting rights and protect every American’s right to vote, but they’ll only act if all of us speak out.
